Depth: middle school
In this lesson students explored the dual meaning of the word "depth". We started by figuring out how to create the illusion of physical depth using 1 point perspective. This concept was then applied to the students name, making it look like the letters were 3-D! Next we explored depth of personality by using pictures to communicate who we are. Students learned how to use 1 point perspective and how to communicate using visual language.
Pictured right is a students rough draft. We began by using graph paper to make sure our block letters were made using straight lines and that they were evenly spaced. Once the block letters were on the paper, students practiced using the technique on their rough draft to make sure they understood how to use it before beginning on their final draft.

Below you will see one of the finished examples from one of my more athletic students! As you can see from her drawing, Samantha likes to play soccer and baseball, is an animal lover, is fascinated by the science of weather, and enjoys drawing.
